SECRETARY’S REPORT  2007  

1.         Statistics:

1.1       Five general meetings and an AGM with average attendance of 41 [2006 average 42].  Topics covered were:-

o                    The Work of Teignbridge District Council.

o                    The Jurassic Coast .

o                    Birds of the Exe Estuary.

o                    Climate Change Essentials.

o                    Pumpkins and Poetry.

We also held a most successful Barn Dance to “Red Shed” on 30^th November.

1.2       Committee meetings : seven.

1.3       Current membership 343 [324 last year].

2.      Association activities.

We have continued to try to further the objectives of the Association in the following ways:

a.      Holding general meetings with speakers on topics relating to the objectives;

b.      Acting as a forum for the views of residents;

c.      Maintaining our communications arrangements for members;

d.      Scrutinising planning applications and commenting where these fall within our policy.

e.      Initiating a village website;

f.        Liaising with our local councils and other interested bodies over matters which may affect the village, especially safety of road users on the A379;

g.      Producing “Holcombe Jottings”;

h.      Liaising with the village hall committee;

i.         Liaising with local Councillors;

j.         Liaising with the Dawlish Community Trust;

k.       Promoting the conservation of valued elements of the local landscape such as trees;

l.         Running stalls in the village summer and Christmas Fayres ;

m.    Encouraging police liaison.

I am happy to answer any questions on Association activities and we will welcome ideas for further developments for the Association at the AGM.  

3.      Committee membership and support

 Specific responsibilities on the committee are given below:  

I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the committee who have worked very hard as a team for the Association throughout the year. It is a great team to work with and it has been most refreshing to have three new members :- John Bromley; Gwyn Crossland and Andy Watson join us this year.

Our efforts have been supported by a large number of people and we would like to thank them all.  In particular our councillors, John Clatworthy and Humphrey Clemens continue to be very active and responsive on behalf of the village.  A number of our members are also most helpful and it is pleasing to have the support of so many members attending meetings and contributing to village life.  Many thanks to everyone who has helped in any way.
