HOLCOMBE RESIDENTS
ASSOCIATION The year
has been a busy time for the
Association dealing with challenges and changes which could affect all our lives
in Holcombe. Firstly it is pleasing to record that all our general meetings have
been very well attended. A wide range of speakers on various topics
from Climate Change, Jurassic Coast, Pumpkins and Poetry, and Teignmouth
Heroes have all added interest to our meetings and hopefully
there has been something for all members. As in
previous years some planning applications have required considerable time and
effort by individuals as well as the Planning Group to submit an association
comment to the Teignbridge Local Planning
Authority. In particular the application for extensions
and changes at Holcombe Hall
have needed much research particularly in relation to the access on to the busy
A379 road. In 2005 we were promised improvements along this section after
consultation with local residents but so far major work has not been carried out
except to relocate the bus stop. Road safety issues
are a priority for the association and pressure is being maintained on
the relevant public bodies to achieve solutions
and improvements. I would
like to thank all the committee for their work during the year and
John Watson (secretary) who
has kept us all up to speed with the essential administrative material. It has
been a pleasure to work with everyone. Thanks also are extended to our local
councilors John Clatworthy and Humphrey Clemens who are able to provide the
essential link with Dawlish ,Teignbridge and Devon
councils. One of the joint achievements for 2007 has been the siting of
the Holcombe and Dawlish signs on the A379 which hopefully will clearly and more
easily guide visitors to Holcombe. Another
sign for Holcombe has
been the production of a Holcombe website with all thanks to Andy Watson for
this www.
holcombedevon.co.uk and
I am sure this will be a useful and important
way to promote local events
and information. This year
an event not to be forgotten was the excellent Barn Dance in December which
brought together members and friends in a festive mood. The end result was
when is the next one and so a provisional booking has been made for
28 November 2008. In any
annual summary there are matters that could be highlighted but above all I
believe if the year ends with an active association that provides an interest
for all members and works to ensure that Holcombe is a friendly and wonderful
place to live then we have all succeeded. Thank you everyone. Roger Tyler Chairman |
