 3.Minutes of the AGM 22nd April 2005

The minutes of the previous AGM were signed as a true and accurate record.

 4.Matters arising

4.1 The commemorative plaque for John Hughes’ apple tree has just arrived and will be erected shortly.

5.4 Holcombe Village road sign. There is to be a site meeting at which HRA will be represented with a lady from DCC, Humphrey Clemens and town councillors in the hope that a “Holcombe”sign can be added to the Dawlish sign at the Minadab. Signs are now funded by the Dawlish Town Council.

 5.Chairman’s verbal report

1.The Association is saddened at the untimely death of Anne, the wife of Len Tweedale, A letter of condolence has been sent on our behalf.

2.It has been a quiet year generally with a good Summer Fayre but a disappointing Christmas Party. This was not well attended and as there was no positive response from the meeting there will be no party this year leaving us to concentrate on the Arts and Crafts Exhibition in May.

3.There are now only 7 committee members. New members are desperately needed so please consider it. The Chairman is standing down although remaining on the committee.

4.There is difficulty getting speakers and if anyone has heard a good speaker or knows of one please tell the secretary.

 6.Secretary’s report

The secretary produced a printed report – attached to the previous year’s minutes. He gave a summary of the year’s activities and meetings and expressed thanks to Gerry Chambers who is largely responsible for the flourishing membership figure of 320. The forthcoming Arts and Crafts Exhibition will take place over 2 days in May. Posters and invitations will be issued and 33 exhibitors have already been listed.

There has been great concern over Fordens Lane , the new properties in Windward Lane are an example of things not looking too bad on the plans but actually looking quite dominant.  The Gatehouse has been demolished and a crescent is to be built and there is concern over the trees and John will contact the  Teignbridge Arboriculturist..

Roger Tyler is an active member of the Dawlish Regeneration Commitee and has kept us well informed.

John followed the Chairman’s lead in pressing members to consider serving on the committee. He thanked the committee members giving particular mention to Humphrey Clemens and John Clatworthy for their support. It is very sad to lose Len Tweedale, his help has been invaluable and will be greatly missed.

Joan Felthouse is standing down as Chairman after a second term. She has been tremendous and formidable, keeping us all in line and encouraging talk and different views. Happily Joan has agreed to stay on the committee.

The Chairman was presented with a bottle of champagne with the hope that its vintage was as exceptional as her good self.

 7.Presentation of accounts

The balance sheet was circulated in advance and Douglas was thanked by the Chairman for his hard work. The Arts and Crafts Exhibition may cost the Association but we are in an healthy financial situation.

 8.Appointment of financial examiner

Mr Ken Locke has agreed to do this for another year.

 9. Election of committee

The following members were nominated prior to the meeting and elected by written ballot:

Douglas Bruce, Carol Chambers, Gerry Chambers, Joan Felthouse, John Felthouse, Gill Lavis, Roger Tyler and John Watson.

The meeting closed at 7.50 pm and was followed by refreshments and an Open Forum
