[Back to Residents Association page] Minutes of Annual General Meeting held Friday 11th May 2007
1.Welcome The
Chairman welcomed 34 members, a lower number due to the
uncertain weather. A particularly warm welcome was extended to new members. 2.Apologies Received
from: D C Councillor John Clatworthy, Douglas & Brenda Bruce, Beryl &
Sam King, Mr & Mrs David Harrison, Tony & Audrey Sprague, Bunty Pike,
Barbara Rains, Lois Bromley, John & Barbara Wright, Arthur Reed, Jean
Clemens, Pat Weston. 3.Minutes
of the AGM 7th April 2007 The
minutes of the previous AGM were signed as a true and accurate record. 4.Matters
arising 5.4
There
was much discussion and several suggestions as to the wording and sites of new
signs and it was generally agreed that the existing sign near the Minadab should
combine Dawlish and Holcombe Village and a new Holcombe Village sign should be
somewhere near the Smugglers Inn from the direction of Dawlish. There is also
concern that the directional signs for the village are misleading and that there is a need for
an “unsuitable for heavy vehicles” sign on the back road from the Minadab ( Costs
are likely to be £500.00 for each new sign and £50.00 to remove signs. It
was agreed that the matter be pursued and funding sought. The secretary will
write to Devon County Council. 5.Chairman’s
report Attached
to the previous year’s minutes. The
chairman expressed his personal thanks to all members of the committee for their
work during the year 6.Secretary’s
report The
secretary produced a printed report – attached to the previous year’s
minutes. The
average attendance at meetings is 42, a high proportion of the total membership
of 330. The
Arts and Crafts Exhibition was a terrific success thanks to the exhibitors, the
attendees, the committee and Vicki Sparks’ expertise. The
planning sub committee’s policy is slightly changed to cover the problem of
any application having significant effect on neighbouring amenities. Everyone
needs to be vigilant about planning applications. The
campaign for the reinstatement of the double white lines had been successful due
to the tireless efforts of Hils Hansen and John Clatworthy’s terrific support.
The need for a pedestrian refuge is still being pursued. Thanks
to Bryan Weston for Holcombe Jottings, second edition due soon. Humphrey
Clemens has been a tower of strength, offering wise counsel on many issues. Thanks
to all the committee who willingly give time and effort. It is sad that there
are not more members especially as we are actually unconstitutional with only
seven. 7.Presentation
of accounts The
balance sheet was circulated in advance. The Arts and Crafts
made a small loss of £29.00 but the balance of £1500.00 is very
healthy. Thanks expressed to Douglas Bruce in his absence. Acceptance
of the accounts was proposed by Bryan Weston and seconded by Val
Born. As
